Name of unit: Department of Ophthalmology (BM4)
Establishment: The ophthalmological division of Hospital 103 has been established and developed since 1959 in the line of specialized department and physician Do Van Trac was in charge of. On 26 March1976 Department of Ophthalmology was officially established with Dr Tran Trong Hoan as the head. On the basis of the Faculty of Ophthalmology, the Department of Ophthalmology was decided to be established on March 15, 1983 by Specialist-2 Nguyen Van Lam. March 26 every year is considered the traditional day of the department-falcuty.

Function, Mission:
– Training: Taking part in training general doctors in VMMU, Preliminary specialist of Ophthalmology (oriental), Preliminary nurse of Ophthalmology (oriental), Specialist I and II of Ophthalmology, resident doctor of Ophthalmology.
– Scientific research: Applied research and development of issues and projects in the field of ophthalmology and related.
– Treatment: Diagnosis, advice, treatment of all ophthalmologic and related diseases.

+ Phaco machine (emulsifying cataracts by ultrasound)
+ YAG laser machine, YAG 532 nm laser machine

+ Fluorescent angiography equipment
– Deploying techniques:
+ Cataract surgery, replacing by an Intraocular lens, using high-grade kinds of Intraocular lens (IOL) such as: multifocal IOL (2 focal, 3 focal), toric IOL, Extended Depth of Focus IOL, Extended Depth of Focus multifocal IOL.

+ Vitrectomy : treatment of Retinal detachment, Vitrectomy to treat AMD, epiretinal membrane, Proliferative vitreoretinopathy ….

+ Penetrating keratoplasty

+ Orbital decompression for severe grave’s orbitopathy: via skin and conjunctiva, or endoscopy
