2. Historical Background of the Department
Date of establishment: June 20, 1968
The Department of Mathematics and Informatics, established on June 20, 1968, emerged from a falcuty within the Basic Science block. In 1970, the Department of Mathematics – Physics came into existence with a dedicated team of six lecturers (3 mathematics lecturers, 3 physics lecturers). The department was initially led by Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Chat.
Subsequently, on April 7, 1981, the Department of Mathematics and Physics underwent a division, resulting in the establishment of two distinct departments. The Department of Mathematics, consisting of nine lecturers, was entrusted to the leadership of Comrade Nguyen The Minh. In September 1983, it merged with the Department of Military Medical Tactics Organization, forming the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, which continued to be under the guidance of Comrade Nguyen The Minh.
In September 1987, the Mathematics Group combined with Laboratory No. 6 to form the Department of Mathematics and Statistics – Biomedical Electronics, headed by comrade Nguyen The Minh.
In January 1990, it merged with the Department of Physics and Biophysics, and in October 1995, it split into the Department of Mathematics and Informatics until now (renamed the Department of Mathematics and Informatics since 2017).

Developing programs and teaching Mathematics, Statistics, Probability and Information Technology for undergraduate and graduate students. Ensuring the application of statistics in scientific research topics. Modern statistical research in the fields of Medicine – Pharmacy and military.

On April 7, 1981, the Department of Mathematics and Physics split into two departments. The Department of Mathematics, headed by Comrade Nguyễn Thế Minh (consisting of 9 lecturers). In September 1983, it merged with the Department of Military Strategic Organization to become the Statistics Mathematics Department, with Comrade Nguyễn Thế Minh as the head of the department.

In September 1987, the Mathematics Department combined with Laboratory No. 6, forming the Mathematics-Statistics and Biomedical Electronics Department, with Comrade Nguyễn Thế Minh as the head of the department.

In January 1990, it merged with the Department of Physics and Biological Physics, then split again in October 1995 to become the Mathematics-Computer Science Department, which has remained to this day (renamed as the School of Mathematics and Computer Science since 2017).

The department carried out 01 project and 01 initiative funded by the Ministry of National Defense. In 2018, the department was awarded a certificate of merit by the Minister of National Defense (Decision No. 1908/QĐ – BQP on May 24, 2018).
