Department of Parasitology & Entomology

The Department has made significantly investments in program development and enhancement, with a particular focus on the creation of textbooks and lecture materials. The Department has authored 05 textbooks (02 postgraduate textbooks and 03 undergraduate textbooks), and compiled thousands of multiple-choice questions. The Department boasts a well-equipped laboratory system featuring contemporary equipment, which includes traditional parasitology laboratories as well as a cutting-edge “high-tech testing and analysis” laboratory designed to facilitate molecular biology techniques in parasite research. Notably, in 2005, the Department received the prestigious assignment of providing formal PhD training in Parasitology & Entomology and successfully supervised the completion of two doctoral theses, attesting to its scientific potential and educational prowess.
Scientific research is a cornerstone of the department’s activities, with a particular focus on subjects relevant to military and community medicine. Furthermore, the department is proactive in harnessing the advances of science and technology to diagnose and research parasitic diseases through the application of molecular biology techniques. Its track record includes overseeing two State-level projects, 20 Ministry/Provincial-level projects, and numerous grassroots-level initiatives. The department’s academic staff has contributed as authors and co-authors to 30 international articles, many of which have been published in prestigious, high-ranking journals (Q1), alongside a wealth of articles in domestic publications.
In alignment with the policy of amalgamating university and hospital established by the Party Committee and Board of Directors of the Vietnam Military Medical University, the Department played a pivotal role in parasite detection testing at Military Hospital 103. This service not only contributed to the diagnosis and treatment of patients but also played a significant role in advancing the department’s educational and research objectives.
Implementing the policy of combining schools and institutes of the Party Committee and Board of Directors of the Military Medical Academy, the Department participated in testing to detect parasites at military hospital 103 to serve the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The testing process also effectively serves the department’s training and scientific research tasks.
Amidst the complex challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, officials and employees of the department displayed unwavering dedication and commitment by participating in epidemic prevention efforts in various regions throughout the country. They conducted their duties with utmost responsibility, surmounting difficulties and hardships to safeguard public health and fulfill their designated tasks. Numerous department officials and employees have received recognition and accolades for their exceptional contributions in the fight against the epidemic.
3. Functions and responsibilities
– Engage in the training of medical professionals at various levels and specializations, serving both the Armed Forces and the civilian population: General Medical Doctors, Pharmacists, Laboratory Testing Bachelors, Nursing Bachelors, First Degree Specialist, Second Degree Specialist, Masters, and Doctors.
– Assume leadership roles or actively participate in the execution of research initiatives and projects within the domains of Medical Parasitology, Entomology, and related majors.
– Provide counsel to the University Director and oversee the strategic development of scientific capabilities and technical infrastructure to fulfill the Department’s educational, research, and specialized objectives in the field of Medical Parasitology & Entomology.
– Build up a comprehensively strong Department, a clean and strong Party cell.
