2. Tradition, history of formation and development
The Drug Research and Production Application Center, formerly the Experimental Drug Research and Production Application Center, was established on December 1st in 1993 based on the merger of the Drug Production Department and the Blood Component Separation Laboratory. The center’s mission is to research, extract blood products and drug products from domestic medicinal herbs to serve agriculture and medicine, participate in the training of scientific staff in the fields of hematology, blood transfusion, and drug preparation, apply the research results of approved projects and topics to put into production and application to take care of soldiers and people’s health.
In 2017, the General Staff issued Decision No. 1441/QD-TM on the Organization and Personnel Structure of the VMMU on September 26th in 2017 in which the center would be called the Drug Research and Production Application Center.
Currently, the Drug Research and Production Application Center offers in-depth training with many academic degrees from associate professors, doctors, masters, specialist level I, II, pharmacists, engineers, and soldiers. After nearly 30 years of construction and development, along with the development of the Army and VMMU, the staff, employees, and soldiers of the Drug Research and Production Application Center have successfully completed the assigned tasks, especially the task of researching and applying the results of topics to put into production, thereby serving soldiers and people, developing research directions in pharmaceutical technology, producing drug products, functional foods, cosmetics, participating in training and training classes for pharmaceutical students at VMMU in the field of pharmaceutical technology.
3. Functions and tasks
Functions
Organizing and implementing research and application work for the production of functional foods and distribution of research products; participating in undergraduate and postgraduate training in pharmacy; leading and managing staff, employees, and soldiers under their authority and managing students in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Defense and VMMU.
Tasks
Researching and applying advanced technologies in the formulation, production of finished products and raw materials for medicines, cosmetics, health supplement, biological preparations to serve the tasks of training, protecting and taking care of the health of soldiers and people; cooperate domestically and internationally in the field of pharmacy in accordance with the regulations of law, the Ministry of Defense and VMMU.
Organizing the production and distribution of medicines, health supplement, cosmetics, biological technology products and other products.
Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate training courses in pharmacy for students of VMMU.
Maintaining the routine regime in all aspects of work; building a clean and strong exemplary Party branch; building a model, exemplary unit, being ready to receive and complete all tasks well when assigned by the University and the competent authorities.

5. Outstanding achievements
Scientific research:
The center has been presiding and participating in research with agencies and units inside and outside VMMU to ensure compliance with regulations, progress, quantity and quality of products. It also did a great job on proposing new research topics; continuing to implement and master new research techniques such as modernizing traditional herbal medicines and traditional medicine prescriptions; researching on nano technology applied in the production of drugs, functional foods, and synthetic organic chemistry. The center continues implementing research directions on self-fermentation technology in the laboratory; actively participates in building research and technical improvement initiatives to contribute to improve the productivity and quality of research and production; always excel in the work of international publication and patent exclusivity with scientific works with novelty and creativity. The center is one of the outstanding units in terms of the results of international publications and patent exclusivity. The center’s publications in prestigious international journals are completely independent, self-reliant works of the center without the help of foreign factors at all. Specific achievements are as follows:
Leading and cooperating to implement 13 national level projects, 12 projects of the Ministry of National Defense.
Always the leading unit in international publication and intellectual property registration with 25 international papers and 18 patents granted.
Production:
The center has also successfully completed the task of producing and distributing drugs, health supplement, cosmetics, biological technology products and other products which are licensed by the Ministry of Health as health supplementary certified by GMP and by the Hanoi Department of Health as a qualified cosmetics production facility.
It maintains the production of over 52 types of health supplementary, 44 nutraceutical products. These products are all licensed by the Food Safety Administration under the Ministry of Health.
Education:
The number of teaching hours for postgraduate and undergraduate classes are guaranteed. The number of teaching hours every year exceeds the standard (it reached 245% in 2019, 322% in 2020, 291% in 2021 respectively).
8 post graduate students were instructed to conduct their theses, of which 5 postgraduate students successfully defended their doctoral theses. 1 specialist level II and 1 pharmacist level II also defended their graduation theses and have been awarded diplomas.
The Center cooperates with the Department of Pharmacy to compile and publish 2 textbooks for training which are pharmaceutical synthesis techniques and pharmaceutical practice. It also published 2 chapters of specialized books on the international publishing Videleaf.
With the outstanding achievements, the center has been awarded a certificate of merit by the Minister of Defense three times and proposed to be awarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister.
