4. Functions:
The Faculty of Neurology, under the direct supervision of the Board of Directors of Military Hospital 103, and in accordance with the training tasks assigned by the Vietnam Military Medical University, consists of two departments: the Department of Neurology and the Department of Stroke. The Faculty of Neurology is responsible for carrying out specialized tasks related to neurological disorders, including stroke. It also serves as a guiding unit for the diagnosis and treatment of specialized medical conditions and the development of the department.
5. Duties:
– Education: train Specializing, General Practitioner, Specialist Physician, Master’s, and Doctorate in the field of Internal Neurology as instructed by Military Hospital 103 and the Vietnam Military Medical University.
– Treatment: ensure comprehensive patient care to support the training of treatments of internal neurological diseases; treat, provide emergency care, consult, and manage inpatients and outpatients with internal medical conditions within the field of Internal Neurology.
– Scientific research: conduct scientific research projects and develop techniques in the field of Internal Neurology, both nationally and internationally, for research and specialized training.
– Participate in referral activities and medical examination of cases related to internal neurological diseases.
– Establish a comprehensively strong unit.
6. Pivotal techniques:
Techniques used in the Department of Neurology include:
– Spinal disorders: Treatment of cervical and lumbar disc herniation using techniques such as percutaneous discectomy, two-needle technique for lumbar disc herniation, laser-assisted disc decompression through the skin.
– Treatment of polyradiculitis and peripheral nerve disorders following the Plasma Exchange (PE) and Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) protocols.
– Acute exacerbation treatment of multiple sclerosis with corticosteroid pulse therapy.
– Percutaneous vertebral biopsy through the skin.
– Electrodiagnostic tests: Continuous nerve stimulation for diagnosing muscle weakness, nerve conduction studies for motor and sensory function, F-wave studies, H-reflex studies of peripheral nerves.
– Electromyography (EMG) and single-fiber electromyography (SFEMG) for diagnosing muscle weakness, visual and sensory evoked potentials.
– Prolonged EEG, video EEG, polysomnography.
