2. Historical Background of the faculty
Since 1957, the University has maintained a core emphasis on the instruction of political theory. In tandem with the evolution, growth, and maturation of the Vietnam Military Medical University, the Department of Marxist-Leninist Theory and Ideology has demonstrated continuous expansion across all facets.
The precursor to the Department of Marxist-Leninist Theory and Ideology was a group of political educators within the Board of Mass Mobilisation, a branch of the University’s Department of Politics. In April 1967, the University’s Board of Directors made the pivotal decision to establish the Department of Political Education, led by the Deputy Political Commissar and the Head of the Department of Politics. This landmark event designated April 22, 1967, as the department’s traditional anniversary.
Subsequently, in August 1984, due to evolving operational requirements, the Department of Political Education underwent a structural transformation, resulting in the creation of two distinct departments: the Department of Marxist-Leninist Theory and Ideology and the Department of Party and Political Work.
By March 1992, prompted by evolving responsibilities, the Department of Marxist-Leninist Theory and Ideology and the Department of Party and Political Work were amalgamated into a unified entity known as the Department of Social Sciences. At the close of 1998, this department was rebranded as the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities.
From June 2004, in accordance with Decision No. 451/QD-VP, dated June 18, 2004, issued by the University’s Director, the Department of Marxist-Leninist Theory and Ideology was reinstated, this time under the Vietnam Military Medical University, following its separation from the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities.
