2. Tradition:
On January 10th in 1959, the training course for safety and hygiene in infectious diseases was established under the Decision directed by the Board of Directors of Military Medical School. This is the forerunner of Department of Military Hygiene. On March 23th in 1962, the Ministry of National Defense decided to change the Military Medical School into the Military Medical Research Institute. During this time, the Department of Environmental Hygiene from the Department of Military Medicine was transferred to the Military Medical Research Institute and established the Department of Military Hygiene with Doctor Tu Giay as Head of Department. The Department of Military Hygiene is organized into departments which are Water Supply Hygiene Committee, Occupational Hygiene Committee, Nutritional Hygiene Committee, Occupational Physiological Hygiene Committee, Situational Hygiene Committee.
On March 11th in 1967, the Department of Occupational Hygiene and Physiology was separated from the Department of Military Hygiene to establish the Department of Military Occupational Physiology headed by Dr. To Nhu Khue. From now on, the Department has been divided into 3 areas of teaching and research including environmental health, labor hygiene, nutrition, and food safety.
In 2017, the Minister of National Defense issued the Decision No. 1441/QD-TM officially named ” Faculty of Military Hygiene” and established 3 subjects including Navy Hygiene, Army Hygiene, Air Force Hygiene with 15 staff members,1 Dean,1 vice dean and 3 Heads of Department.
Since 1959, there has been 7 Heads of Department.

Outstanding achievements:
Training target:
Currently, the Department is responsible for training both postgraduate and under graduate students. Along with other specialized fields, the Department participates in offering long-term training courses for military doctors, civilian doctors and pharmacists. Regarding post-graduate training, the department has trained over 50 postgraduate students, hundreds of Masters and Doctors with degree as Specialist Level 1, Level 2 majors in hygiene and epidemic prevention, Resident doctors in the field of the military medicine and medical prevention as well as other related majors. The Department of Military Hygiene is famous for doctors specializing in epidemic hygiene and medical prevention. The goal of the Department is how to train students combining theory with practice.
Scientific research:
– In addition to teaching, the Faculty also focuses on scientific research activities in the fields of military medicine to ensure health, improve environmental health, occupational health, nutrition, food hygiene and safety, health system research, health education communication, climate change, research and application of new materials in diagnosis and detection of pathogens and toxins in the environment, food and other medical fields related to preventive studies. Research projects are often associated with and serve practical military operations and preventive medicine work of military units.
– The Faculty has chaired 10 state-level projects, nearly 50 ministerial-level research projects and state-level branch projects. The above topics have all been accepted and applied to actual training and combat. Many topics at grassroots level and general department level.
– The Faculty has published over 30 international scientific articles and over 300 scientific articles in domestic specialized journals.
– The Faculty has 02 exclusive utility solutions, 01 exclusive patent certified by the National Office of Intellectual Property.
Merits:
Along with the maturity of the Department, the staff, teachers, and technicians are also constantly growing. Professor Tu Giay was awarded the Independence Medal, second class, Labor Hero, and People’s Physician. Prof. Dr. Science. Nguyen Manh Lien was awarded the title of People’s teacher, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Khac Duc was awarded the title of Outstanding Teacher, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Chau was awarded the title of Outstanding Physician.
The faculty, for many years, have been awarded certificates of merit and certificates of merit, and each year the party unit achieves a clean and strong cell. 14 comrades awarded medals “For the cause of education”, 8 comrades awarded medals “For the cause of science and technology” and 7 comrades awarded medals “For the cause of human health”.
