Faculty of Military Occupational Medicine

2. Unit tradition:
On 10 March 1967, in accordance with the decision made by the Administrators of the Medical Military University (now known as the Medical Military Academy, the Faculty of Military work physiology as part of the Section of Military Health has been separated into the Section of Military work physiology. Major Doctor To Nhu Khue has been appointed as Dean of the Faculty, with Captain Doctor NguyenThe Bien acting as Deputy Dean. The mission of the Section is to educate and conduct in-depth research into the human element in military work and measures to enhance and train the work and combat capabilities of the military, especially technical arms.
Until 1988, when faced with the rapid development demands of arms, the Section was tasked with the training of service doctors in technical arms, hence the title alteration into the Section of Arms Medicine. From then till now, the Section took on the education of and research into Military work physiology for general practitioners, Aviation Medicine for doctors operating in the Air Force, Underwater Medicine for doctors operating in the Navy, and Sports Medicine for doctors operating in athletics.
With the development of the military, especially arms which had seen direct advancements to modern technology such as the Navy and the Air Force – Air Defense, Military Medicine in general and Arms Medicine especially also required substantial development in order to meet the demands of the modernization of the Army. Under these circumstances, executing the Decision by the Ministry of Defense, in October 2017, the Section of Arms Medicine was renamed to the Faculty of Arms medicine and founded 3 Sections under that Faculty including the the Section of Army work physiology, Naval Medicine and Air force Medicine. The main function of the Faculty and the Sections under it was still the education of and research into specialized fields such as Army occupational health, Underwater Medicine and Aviation Medicine at a more critical level and continued to adequately meet the demands for the development of arms within the Military.
Generations of leaders of the Section/Faculty:
– From 1967 to December 1988: Prof. Doctor To Nhu Khue as Dean of the Faculty; Doctor Nguyen The Bien as Deputy Dean; Dr. Le Van Nghi as Deputy Dean (1984).
– From 1989 to 2008: Prof. Dr. Le Van Nghi as Dean of the Faculty, Specialist Doctor II Phan Van Thoai as Deputy Dean (1999 to 2005); AP. Dr. Nguyen Tung Linh as Deputy Dean (2005 to 2008); AP. Dr. Dang Quoc Bao as Deputy Dean (2007 to May 2008)
– From March 2008 to August 2021: AP. Dr. Dang Quoc Bao as Dean of the Faculty (from May 2008 to August 2020); AP. Dr. Nguyen Minh Phuong as Deputy Dean (October 2012 to February 2021).
– From March 2021 to Present: AP. Dr. Nguyen Minh Phuong as Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Cao Hong Phuc as Deputy Dean.
With the growth of the Faculty, the staff, lecturers, and technicians have also seen unrivaled development. Prof. To Nhu Khue, the leading expert the field of Labor physiology, has been awarded the title of People’s Teacher, and Prof. Dr. Le Nghi, Dean of the Section, has been awarded with Teacher of Excellence. Furthermore, 4 comrades with Master’s Degree achieved Associate Professor, and 1 Associate Professor attaining Professor. There have been 5 staff members within the Faculty who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis at the Faculty , 1 member defending their specialist thesis II and 3 members defending their Medical Master’s Thesis, with 3 members defending Resident doctor thesis. Currently, the Faculty has 7 lecturers and 5 intermediate level technicians with the professional capabilities of the Faculty.
3. Function, Mission
3.1. Function: The organization engages in the education and scientific research into the specialized fields off army occupational medicine and related fields under the leadership and directives of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors of the Academy and professional instructions of relevant authorities. The leadership, staff and employee management and the participation in leadership activities are all under the regulations of the Army and Academy.
3.2. Mission:
– To teach Army work physiology to university students
– To teach army occupational health, underwater medicine, and aviation medicine to post-graduate students
– To provide knowledge and basic practical application to medical staff within and outside the army on occupational health, aviation medicine, and underwater medicine
– To conduct research on problems in correlation with the specialized fields of Military medicine and occupational health
– Constant updates on Military medicine
– Advise on the provision of military medicinal staff for the army and arms

5. Noteworthy Accomplishments:
The faculty was awarded a Third-class Feat Order from the President (1979), a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of National Defense (2011), a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister (2016). Over the years, the Department has consistently received numerous Certificates of Merit. Concurrently, the Party cell within the department has consistently maintained a high standard as a clean and robust Party cell. Furthermore, the Department also has 16 comrades honored with the “For the Cause of Education” medal, 5 with the “For the Cause of Science and Technology” medal, and 6 with the “For the Cause of People’s Health” medal.
