2. Unit history:
Establishment of the Department
– On April 27, 1965, the Department of Pathological Anatomy at Military Hospital 103 was established.
– In 1979, the Department of Pathological Anatomy (Military Hospital 103) was merged into the Faculty of Pathological Anatomy under the Military Medical University
– In 1987, the Department of Pathological Anatomy was separated and became directly under Military Hospital 103.
Establishment of the Faculty
– On April 27, 1968, the Faculty of Pathological Anatomy under the Military Medical University was established, separating from the Faculty of Pathological Anatomy – Histology.
– In 1988, the Faculty of Forensic Science was established.
– On October 15, 1998, the Department of Pathological Anatomy, the Faculty of Forensic Science, and the Faculty of Pathological Anatomy were merged into the Faculty – Department of Pathological Anatomy – Forensic Science.
3. Functions and duties:
3.1 Functions:
– The Faculty – Department of Pathological Anatomy – Forensic Science is a unit under Military Hospital 103.
– The Faculty- Department conducts tests to diagnose pathological anatomy and cytology for patients undergoing treatment at the hospital.
– The Faculty- Department actively participates in training and scientific research in the fields of Pathological Anatomy, Forensic Science, and related disciplines.
– The Faculty- Department is responsible for commanding and managing personnel, staff, and participating in the supervision of cadets in accordance with the regulations of the Fatherland, the Ministry of National Defence, the Vietnam Military Medical University, and Military Hospital 103.
3.2 Duties:
a) Professional activities::
– Conduct diagnostic tests in anatomical pathology and cytology to support clinical practices, including routine Hematoxylin-Eosin (H.E) histology tests, rapid biopsy, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and specialized staining techniques within the scope specified by the Ministry of Health.
– Organize the reception, storage, autopsy, and funeral services for military personnel and civilians who pass away at Military Hospital 103, National Burn Hospital, and cases assigned by higher authorities.
– Maintain and strictly implement hospital procedures (emergency, outpatient, examination, prescription, surgery, consultation, transfer, referral, etc.).
– Develop plans and implement the technical specialization and advancement in the fields of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Science.
– Implement quality criteria as assigned by the hospital, actively participate in improving the quality of medical examinations and treatments to ensure patient safety.
– Participate in forensic examinations, medical appraisals, occupational health examinations, and health examinations for designated individuals.
– Provide professional guidance for lower-level military medical units as stipulated by Military Hospital 103 and the Vietnam Military Medical University.
– Contribute to disaster response and readiness, handling epidemics, disasters, and natural calamities; fulfill missions at the Nam Yết Island Hospital in the Spratly Islands and other assigned medical examination and treatment tasks.
b) Education and training activities:
– Participate in organizing undergraduate and postgraduate education in the field of Pathological Anatomy – Forensic Science; develop programs, course content, and implement training plans according to assigned missions.
– Build and develop a team of lecturers; organize training sessions, workshops, and provide guidance on professional and specialized tasks for the staff directly involved in the fields of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Science.
– Organize and participate in continuous training and hospital-based practical training, enhancing knowledge in the specialized fields of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Science for healthcare professionals
– Engage in collaborative education and training in Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Science with educational institutions, hospitals, and institutes as stipulated by the law, the Ministry of National Defence, the Vietnam Military Medical University, and Military Hospital 103.
c) Scientific research activities:
– Propose research directions and organize the implementation of scientific and technological activities, environmental protection within the scope of topics at various levels, clinical trials, and applications of medical science achievements in the fields of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Science to serve training, medical examination, and treatment tasks.
– Publish research results on scientific and technological topics in domestic and international scientific journals; propose innovative technical ideas, methods, and contribute to the development of professional expertise; participate in scientific workshops, competitions, and athletic competitions in the specialized fields of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Science, as well as international cooperation in science and technology within the specialized and related fields.
d) Building an exemplary clean and strong Party Unit (Cell):
– The current Faculty – Department has 19 Party members, with 2 new members admitted to the Party cell in the last 5 years. The Party cell consistently maintains a “Clean and Strong” reputation.
– The Party members within the cell consistently serve as role models, excellently and outstandingly fulfilling their assigned tasks. No Party member has violated discipline.
