Date of Establishment: June 20, 1968
The Department of Physics and Biophysics was established, separating from the Department of Mathematics and Physics, which was the predecessor of the Department. At that time, the Department had 11 lecturers and 2 technicians.
In January 1990, the Department of Computer Science merged with the Department of Physics and Biophysics, becoming the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Biophysics. However, by October 1990, the Department of Computer Science separated from the Department of Physics and Biophysics.
In 2017, following a decision by the Ministry of National Defense, the Department of Physics and Biophysics became the Faculty of Physics and Biophysics.

– Comrade Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Hữu Bài – Department Chairman.
– Comrade Colonel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vũ Công Lập – Department Chairman (1981-1989).

– Comrade Colonel Lê Văn Hạnh – Department Vice Chairman, responsible for the department (2007-2008).

3. Roles and responsibilities / Functions and duties
Developing programs and teaching Physics, Biophysics, and Fundamentals of Life Physics for university and postgraduate students. Conducting research in medical physics, biomedical physics, biophysics, biomedical electronics, and modern biomedical engineering in the field of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Military.

5. Prominent Achievements (from the Ministry of National Defense)
The faculty has been awarded 01 commendation by the Prime Minister, 03 commendations by the Minister of National Defense, and 03 commendations by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.
The university’s Student Physics Olympic team has participated in the National Student Physics Olympic competition for many years, achieving high results: 5 first-place team awards, 5 second-place team awards, 21 individual first-place awards, 24 individual second-place awards, and 21 individual third-place awards.
