3. Functions and tasks
3.1. Function
The Political Department of VMMU is responsible for party work and political work; operates under the direction of the General Department of Politics; under the leadership of VMMU’s Party Committee, under the direct direction of the Political Commissar, and the management and administration of the Director in related to VMMU’s activities. It proposes to the Political Commissar and Party Committee of VMMU the contents and measures of party work and political work in the unit. It develops and organizes the implementation of party and political work plans at its level; and it also guides and inspects agencies and units in VMMU.

3.2. Mission
It researches and proposes to the Political Commissar and Party Committee of VMMU to decide on the content, measures for party work and political work; develop plans and organize implementation at their level; guide and inspect agencies and units; build VMMU’s political agency and guide the building of comprehensively strong political agencies at all levels in VMMU; organize training and fostering professional skills in party work and political work for party committee members and political officials according to decentralization; manage and use funds, equipment, and supplies for party and political work to ensure compliance with regulations and laws.
It helps build for officers, employees, students, and soldiers in VMMU to be absolutely loyal to the Party, to the Socialist Fatherland of Vietnam, to the people, to have strong political courage, and the will to fight, to have high competition, strict self-discipline, be ready to accept and complete assigned tasks; guide and organize military social sciences and humanities research; participate in research on military science and art, military science and technology; compile the history and traditions of the Party Committee and VMMU.
It also helps build party committees and party organizations at all levels within VMMU’s Party Committee to be clean and strong, with a team of exemplary vanguard party members, with comprehensive leadership capacity and high fighting strength, solidarity, unity, and strictness, keep party discipline, unit leaders to successfully carry out all tasks in all situations; guide and inspect party work and political work in tasks, focusing on education-training, scientific research, treatment, combat readiness, formal construction, discipline training, strategic prevention of “peaceful evolution” and natural disaster prevention.
It researches and proposes to the Political Commissar and Party Committee of VMMU to build a team of officials in the unit with sufficient quantity, reasonable structure, high quality, well fulfilling assigned responsibilities and tasks, meeting requirements. both immediate and long-term needs.
It guides and inspects agencies and units conducting protection and security work; build a unit that is politically clean and safe in all aspects, building safe units associated with building safe areas.
It conducts mass mobilization work, directly participating in revolutionary political campaigns, contributing to building a strong political base, socio-economic development in the area where troops are stationed, and firmly consolidating the relationship system of flesh and blood solidarity between the Army and the people; carry out special propaganda work, mass work, military councils and grassroots democratic regulations in VMMU.
It also guides and inspects agencies and units to strictly comply with the policies and regimes of the Party and State; correctly implement policies for officers, students, soldiers, workers and military rear policies; research and propose to superiors to improve policies for officers, students, and soldiers in VMMU and military rear policies.
4. Achievements
The Political Department was honored to be awarded the Second Class Victory Medal by the Party and State, the Third Class Labor Medal, and the Third Class Fatherland Defense Medal. For many years, it has been awarded Emulation Flags and Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Politics and other Central and local Ministries, Departments and Branches. Every year, the Department and its sub-units are continuously awarded the title of Determination-to-win Unit, Certificate of Merit, and Certificate of Merit by VMMU. Hundreds of individuals were awarded the Victory Medal, the Glorious Soldier Medal and other noble awards from the Party and State.
