2. History of the unit:
The Postgraduate Branch was established on April 12th, 1976, based on the Postgraduate Battalion (codenamed System 1). The initial leadership team of the The Postgraduate Branch included Major Nguyễn Tường Văn as the Branch Commander, Captain Quản Trọng Tam as the Commissar, and Captain, Dr. Lê Lương Vinh as the Deputy Branch Commander for Training. At the same time, the University’s Party Committee designated Capt. Quản Trọng Tam as the Secretary and Maj. Nguyễn Tường Văn as the Deputy Secretary of the Branch’s Party Committee.
The Postgraduate Branch serves the function of coordinating with relevant agencies and the various departments of the University to implement training programs, plans, and assessments; organizes and manages the evaluation of postgraduate students’ training results, including training for Level I/II Specialists, Master’s degrees, Resident Doctors, Doctors of Philosophy, and training for campaign, tactics, and military doctors for various units in postgraduate enrollment preparation.
Having undergone 48 years of development and growth, with the leadership and guidance of the University’s Party Committee and Board of Directors, along with the collaborative support of various government agencies, hospitals, departments, units, generations of officers, educators, and medical professionals, as well as the assistance from local authorities where the academy is based, the Postgraduate Branch has made remarkable strides in terms of scale and organizational capacity to fulfill its mission. From its humble beginnings, managing 54 postgraduate students in five specialized fields for Level I Specialists (in 1976), the Branch now oversees nearly 500 postgraduate students, encompassing all types of postgraduate training in medicine-pharmacy and military medicine. To date, the academy has produced 8,519 graduates, including 3,211 Level I Specialists, 1,190 Level II Specialists, 2,062 Masters, 194 Resident Doctors, and 850 Doctors of Philosophy. The accomplishment of the Postgraduate Branch in fulfilling its mission has made a significant contribution to the overall success of the University in providing high-quality human resources for the military and healthcare sector. This, in turn, actively contributes to the noble mission of safeguarding and caring for the health of both the armed forces and the general population.
To achieve the level of development mentioned above, the leadership of the Postgraduate Branch, under the guidance of its Party Committee and Command, has consistently adhered to the Party’s viewpoints and objectives in building a strong military, the strategic development of education and training, and the resolutions of the University’s Party Committee regarding “the renewal and enhancement of training quality”, “the improvement of leadership capacity at all levels, the role of party members and officials”, and “the formation of a dedicated officer corps of Vietnam Military Medical University that are capable of completing missions in new situations”. In close alignment with the leadership and guidance of the University’s Party Committee and Board of Directors, the Branch has effectively leveraged the coordination and support of various functional departments, hospitals, departments, and units throughout the University. Additionally, the Branch’s Party Committee and the Command have fostered unity and encouraged proactive and innovative approaches. They have introduced numerous leadership strategies and initiatives, resulting in the successful execution of all assigned tasks. This commitment to responsibility and intellectual engagement by the officers, students, and staff in their work, study, and training has ensured the successful fulfillment of their assigned duties.
For its outstanding achievements, the Postgraduate Branch has received numerous orders and commendations from the State, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Vietnam Military Medical University. In 2010, it was honored with the Third-class Fatherland Protection Order by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
