The Medical Skills Competition is an annual extracurricular activity designed to help military medical students practice and strengthen their communication, medical interviewing, physical examination, analytical reasoning, and diagnostic skills. This practical and meaningful activity contributes directly to the training of future military physicians.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lieutenant General, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Van Nam, Deputy Commissar of the Vietnam Military Medical University, emphasized that with the motto “Solid Knowledge – Proficient Skills”, this year’s competition continues to affirm the university’s determination to enhance the quality of clinical training. The event enables students to consolidate their knowledge while honing their professional competence through hands-on, accurate, and comprehensive work.
Lieutenant General, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Van Nam, Deputy Commissar of the Vietnam Military Medical University, delivers the opening remarks.
Over the past 17 years of organization, the Medical Skills Competition has become an annual academic forum where students can interact, practice, and demonstrate their ability to approach patients, gather symptoms, perform physical examinations, interpret laboratory results, and formulate clinical reasoning – essential competencies of every physician.
According to the Deputy Commissar, the quality of the university’s clinical training has seen significant improvement in recent years. However, real-world medical practice always demands that physicians not only master theoretical knowledge but also perform clinical techniques with confidence, precision, and proficiency.
“The competition provides students with an opportunity to self-assess their competencies and develop professional discipline. It is also a chance for departments and faculties to reflect on the effectiveness of their training methods, thereby further improving teaching quality,” Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Nam emphasized.
