Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Ba Thang: Disease diagnosis plays a very important role in medical treatment, helping to diagnose diseases quickly and accurately, thereby improving treatment effectiveness and restoring patients’ health, limit complications and sequelae, shorten hospital stays, and reduce costs for patients. Military Hospital 103 is not only a practical hospital of Vietnam Military Medical University but also a central general hospital which ranks the first in healthcare system of the whole army to treat and care for the health of soldiers and civilians. Because of such important position and function, it’s urgent for medical examination and diagnosis at Military Hospital 103 to ensure standards, professionalism, accuracy, efficiency, maintaining professional reputation, creating trust from colleagues and patients, and integrating into the regional and international level of medical qualifications.

Reporter: Comrades, what is the current state of Military Hospital 103’s personnel quality and their ability to examine and diagnose patients?
Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Ba Thang: There are 2,000 officers and employees at Military Hospital 103, most of whom are formally trained. The majority of doctors have postgraduate degrees, including more than 30 professors, associate professors and over 100 doctors. Many doctors studied in foreign countries with modern medical qualifications. Most nurses and chief technicians have Master’s degrees. All staff members possess good foreign language skills, so they are dynamic and enthusiastic in their work, and master most of the specialized techniques of their majors.

Regarding the ability to examine and diagnose diseases, Military Hospital 103 can examine over 3,000 patients, ensuring medical examination and health consultation for officials and employees at agencies and units. The Hospital has the ability to provides inpatient care for 2,000 patients. All departments can perform basic and in-depth techniques for diagnosing diseases. Testing departments always ensure that the basic and in-depth tests are performed to serve disease diagnosis.
Reporter: Recently, what measures has the Hospital implemented to improve the quality of medical examination and diagnosis?
Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Ba Thang: Military Hospital 103 has performed continuous professional examinations and arranged convenient reasonable places for registration, and guidance. Besides, the hospital offers specialized exam rooms and laboratory for patients, building software to manage examination, consultation, and treatment of outpatients. The hospital aims to arrange medical examination personnel to meet daily medical examination needs. Doctors are Specialists Level 1 or higher. Head of department and highly qualified doctors participate directly in sessions weekly. Infrastructure, machinery, and equipment for medical examination are invested in modern, synchronous ways and regularly upgraded.
In terms of diagnosis, regularly evaluating the qualifications and professional ability of doctors and nurses, sending employees to study high and modern techniques in other countries are carried out. Besides, the Hospital also actively invest in machinery and equipment to perform tests for quick and accurate diagnosis, strictly maintain professional regimes especially specialized medical examination regimes and learn from experience in diagnosing complicated cases.
Reporter: So, what are the results of the diagnosis at the Hospital in 2023, comrades?
Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Ba Thang: The hospital has well performed the task of daily and unexpected medical examination with a large number of patients, promptly and effectively meeting their needs. In 2023, nearly 680.000 patients were examined and health consultation was provided to officials and employees of many agencies. Over 5 million high-quality tests for medical examination were performed. The survey results of patient’s satisfaction reached 95.46%.
In 2023, the total number of patients diagnosed during inpatient treatment reached 67.315, an increase of 12.2% compared to the yearly plan and 21% compared to 2022. Along with that, the Hospital has effectively implemented specialized diagnostic techniques, accurate and timely diagnosis of many serious cases. Moreover, the quality of serving patients has been improved (inpatient satisfaction reached 96.65%).
Reporter: What will the hospital do to continue improving the quality of medical examination and diagnosis?
Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Ba Thang: To meet the requirements, Party Committee and Director of Military Hospital 103 determined to strengthen propaganda and education for employees to raise awareness of ethics profession, responsibility, sense of discipline, professional regimes and regulations, scientific working style, civilized and polite communication in performing examination and diagnosis tasks. Furthermore, medical examination for inpatients and outpatients’ treatment, regularly training on expertise and techniques especially applying techniques and high technology for doctors, nurses, and technicians. The Hospital make good use of existing equipment and machinery, adding more modern equipment and machinery to improve the quality of examination and diagnosis, striving for having more testing specialties with ISO certification (diagnostic imaging, pathology, etc.).
In addition, the Hospital continues to develop and update diagnostic guidelines and specialized technical procedures, promoting scientific research, cooperating with other hospitals in the country and other countries to transfer high technology, improve professional qualifications for employees, better offering medical examination and treatment.
