VIETNAM MILITARY MEDICAL UNIVERSITY CONFERS DOCTORAL DEGREES ON 49 POSTGRADUATES
On the afternoon of December 20, the Vietnam Military Medical University (VMMU) hosted its 2024 doctoral degree award ceremony.
In attendance were key figures, including Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Military Medical Department (General Department of Logistics); Major General, Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Hoang, Deputy Director of the Central Military Hospital 108; and Colonel, Dr. Luong Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Military Preventive Medicine Institute.
Representing the VMMU were Lieutenant General, Professor, Dr. Tran Viet Tien, Director of the University; and Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nghiem Duc Thuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar. Also present were representatives from Military Hospital 103, Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital, and 49 postgraduates.

During his address, Lieutenant General, Professor, Dr. Tran Viet Tien extended his congratulations to the 49 new doctors and the postgraduate successfully defending the doctoral dissertation number 1,300 at the university.
He emphasized that training has always been one of the university’s core missions since its establishment, particularly postgraduate education, which plays a vital role in developing high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s military medical and healthcare sectors.
Doctoral training, he noted, is crucial to the development of Vietnamese scientists, especially in the medical field. With 1,299 doctoral students already having successfully defended their theses – accounting for nearly 30% of the total number of domestically trained medical and pharmaceutical doctors in Vietnam – the university has demonstrated its significant contribution to advancing postgraduate education. This achievement underscores VMMU’s reputation as a reliable institution for training military and civilian healthcare professionals.

Lieutenant General, Professor, Dr. Tran Viet Tien also reminded the new doctors that their journey in scientific research is just beginning. He urged them to commit to lifelong learning by drawing knowledge from diverse sources such as documents, conferences, seminars, research, professional practice, and their peers. He encouraged them to reflect on both successes and failures and to cultivate a continuous desire to explore new frontiers in medicine, ultimately striving to become accomplished scientists and exceptional doctors worthy of their doctoral titles.

As part of the ceremony, the university also convened a Thesis Evaluation Council to review the doctoral research thesis of postgraduate Nguyen Minh Nam, marking the university’s 1,300th doctoral dissertation.
