On January 9, the Vietnam Military Medical University (VMMU) convened its annual Military-Political Conference to outline key tasks for 2025. The conference was chaired by Lieutenant General, Professor, Dr. Tran Viet Tien, Director of the University, and attended by Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nghiem Duc Thuan, Political Commissar of the University, along with members of the Board of Directors.

In 2024, the Vietnam Military Medical University issued a framework program for training First Degree Specialists, Second Degree Specialists, and resident physicians; adjusting some contents of the postgraduate entrance exam at the University from 2025; completing phase-one lecture materials for squad-level officer training; finalizing the civilian training project and submitting it to the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army for approval.

Last year, the University awarded certificates and decided to appoint 7 lecturers to the title of Associate Professor in 2024; recognizing five lecturers as Excellent Lecturers at the Ministry of National Defense level and 30 at the university level; enrolling 386 candidates admitted to military universities, 53 students sent by the Ministry of Public Security for training; and training 249 graduate students and post-graduate students.

Hospitals and institutes in the University also performed well in admission, emergency, and treatment, preventing medical incidents; strictly implementing hospital professional regulations and lists of medical examination and treatment techniques; strictly managing and using drugs and medical equipment in accordance with regulations. Hospitals have provided medical care to over 700,000 patients, admitted nearly 76,400 individuals, and performed 24,077 surgeries, including 215 kidney transplants and four liver transplants…

The conference unanimously assessed: Thoroughly grasping and strictly implementing the resolutions and directives of the Party, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnam Military Medical University has focused on leading and directing the implementation and successfully completing the tasks in 2024. In particular, the training quality has been improved, the training program and content have been adjusted, supplemented and innovated; enrollment work has been conducted strictly; the management of scientific research topics has been comprehensively consolidated; the quality of medical examination and treatment has been increasingly improved; the regime and order of regular construction have been strictly maintained; the work of ensuring and investing in basic construction and purchasing equipment has been carried out in accordance with regulations.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General, Professor, Dr. Tran Viet Tien acknowledged and commended the efforts, endeavors and results achieved in 2024, and at the same time requested the entire University to closely follow the spirit of the Leadership Resolution and the 2025 work plan of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors of the University, as well as of the Party Committees, agencies and units to synchronously, comprehensively, with focus and key tasks.

The University determined to focus on completing the training program and plan well; implementing the Project “Training the civilian system at some educational institutions in the Army”; performing well the work of admission, emergency, and treatment to ensure safety; implementing the plan for developing technical expertise until 2025, with a vision to 2030 according to the roadmap; maintaining high standards in patient care, and expanding examination and treatment services in compliance with legal regulations.

The university aims to organize its annual scientific conference with the Kirov Military Medical Academy in Russia and complete the establishment of an international trauma training center at Military Hospital 103. Additionally, VMMU will continue supporting the deployment of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 in South Sudan while preparing for the repatriation of its personnel as scheduled. Long-term infrastructure planning will also take precedence, with a strategic development plan up to 2030, and a vision for 2045, to be submitted to the Central Military Commission for consideration.

The conference concluded with the launch of the university’s Determined-to-Win Emulation Movement in 2025, under the theme: “Democracy, Solidarity, Discipline, Creativity, Determined to Win.” This movement aims to inspire collective efforts across all departments to achieve the university’s objectives and uphold its mission of excellence in education, healthcare, and research.
