COMMITTED AND DEVOTED YOUNG OFFICIALS (Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Vietnam Military Medical University’s Traditional Day March 10, 1949 / March 10, 2024)
With specialization in treatment of a large number of patients and scientific research in the field of trauma and orthopedic surgery, the Department of General Trauma and Microsurgery (Department B1), Orthopedic Trauma Center (Military Hospital 103, Vietnam Military Medical University, hereafter VMMU) has recently performed well in treatment and application of many new techniques.
Speaking of success in professional activities, it should be noted that the Party Committee and leaders of Faculty B1 always assign tasks and create favorable conditions for young officials and staff members to take on key positions in applying many techniques and surgical procedures which require high levels of expertise and skills.
Senior lieutenant, specialist doctor 1 Le Anh Tu is a typical individual who regularly participates in surgical teams requiring high technology at Department B1 as an example. In October 2023, Dr. Tu and his team successfully performed limb fusion surgery for a patient with multiple complex finger cuts and severe injuries. Recently, under the direct guidance of the unit commander, Dr. Tu and his colleagues successfully implemented a grafting technique to restore nerve loss using a complex vein graft and autologous platelet-rich plasma.

Doctors of Department B1 visited patients undergoing limb fusion surgery, October 2023.
According to doctor, Dr. Vu Huu Trung, Vice Dean of Faculty B1, in recent times, the Party Committee and department commanders have regularly strengthened political and ideological awareness, building strong political will for the staff members, especially young ones. To improve professional qualifications, the Department regularly trains, exchanges, and creates favorable conditions for young staff to participate in professional training classes to update and expand new knowledge. Thanks to that, the young staff and staff of the Department have successfully assumed key positions in application of many techniques and surgeries requiring high qualifications, such as replanting severed limbs, suturing or grafting restores nerve damage, transferring flaps of skin, tendons, muscles, bones and complex flaps to cover soft tissue defects, among others. The young staff of Department B1 is also the core force participating in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan Field Hospital, and ensuring military medicine for international military sports events…
With constant efforts, especially the commitment of young staff, over the years, Department B1 has always reaped many achievements, thereby deserving to be one of the last-line medical units of the Army and the whole country in examining, treating, and conducting scientific research in the fields of trauma, orthopedic surgery, diseases and deformities of motor organs. This has contributed to the overall success of VMMU.
