Laos awarded medals to collective and individuals of Vietnam Military Medical University

In the afternoon of August 23, in Vientiane capital, Laos, a conference was held to summarize two years of support and assistance to Lao Military Central Hospital 103 in kidney transplantation and the Medal Awarding Ceremony of the State of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the collective and a number of individuals of the Vietnam Military Medical University (VMMU).

The kidney transplant cooperation project between two hospitals and two militaries of Vietnam and Laos has been implemented since 2018. Up to now, with the support and assistance of Vietnam Military Hospital 103 and VMMU, 15 Lao patients were successfully performed kidney transplants at the Lao Central Military Hospital 103. Currently, all 15 patients are in good health, with all their test results within the normal range during follow-up examinations, and many patients have returned to their daily work.

General Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, on behalf of the Lao Party and Government, awarded the First-Class Labor Medal to Lieutenant General, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Kien, the VMMU director.

In his speech at the conference, General Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, emphasized that over the past time, the Party, Government, Army and people of Vietnam have always provided comprehensive assistance to the Party, Government, Army and people of Laos. In particular, the Vietnam Military Hospital 103 and VMMU have helped train kidney transplant surgery, provided equipment and supplies for kidney transplants, and clothing for patients, etc., making an important contribution to strengthening the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two peoples, the two armies and the people of Laos-Vietnam, Vietnam-Laos are constantly bearing fruit.

Up to now, the Lao Central Military Hospital 103 has mastered 90% of kidney transplant techniques and is striving to continue accumulating experience, building plans and preparations in order to become fully self-sufficient in kidney transplant techniques by 2025.

In recognition of the great help and support from VMMU to Laos, at the Conference, on behalf of the Party and Government of Laos, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos awarded the Labor Medals of the First, Second and Third Classes to one collective and eight individuals of VMMU.
