The Emergency Department of Nam Yet Island Clinic successfully treated a patient with acute appendicitis.
On March 27th, the Nam Yet Island Clinic (part of the Spratly Islands) managed by military doctors from Hospital 103 and the Vietnam Military Medical University successfully received and provided emergency treatment to a patient with acute appendicitis on the fifth day of illness.
The patient, Mr. D.T.T, born in 2006, hometown: Hoa Tien, Hoa Vang, Đa Nang, is a worker on Đa Lon Island. The patient presented with abdominal pain and was transported to Nam Yet Island Clinic for treatment at 11:00 PM on March 26th. Upon examination, doctors at Nam Yet Island Clinic diagnosed the patient with acute appendicitis on the fifth day of illness. By 6:00 AM on March 27th, doctors observed increasing abdominal pain in the patient, clear signs of peritoneal irritation on the right iliac fossa, and clear Murphy’s sign; ultrasound imaging revealed an inflamed appendix located in the right iliac fossa, with a diameter of 6.0mm.
Captain, Dr. Le Ba Hanh, the hospital director, decided to perform surgery on the patient. After over an hour of surgery, the operation was successfully completed. The patient’s health stabilized and was discharged today (April 1st).

Since 1992, Hospital 103, Vietnam Military Medical University has been tasked with providing medical care for Nam Yet Island. Despite limited infrastructure conditions at the hospital, the military medical staff at Nam Yết Island Clinic have always been determined to successfully fulfill all assigned tasks, especially the mission of protecting and caring for the health of officers, soldiers, civilians on the island, and fishermen in the fishing grounds around the island.
