Vietnam Military Medical University opens medical training course for the Level 1 Field Hospital

On February 11th, the Vietnam Military Medical University (VMMU) held the opening ceremony for the medical training course for the Level 1 Field Hospital (United Nations Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1).

Attending the opening ceremony were Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Nhat Dinh, Deputy Director of the VMMU; Colonel Nguyen Ba Hung, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations; and Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Tho, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the Ministry of Public Security for United Nations Peacekeeping.

With the approval from the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security, the VMMU closely coordinated with relevant agencies of both ministries to ensure thorough preparation for the training course. This included developing a training plan, preparing facilities and equipment for training, arranging accommodation, and being prepared to receive and train the staff of the Level 1 Field Hospital in medical expertise.

During the opening speech and task assignment for the Level 1 Field Hospital, Colonel, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Nhat Dinh emphasized: “Lasting for more than a month, the training course lasts is designed and conducted by experienced lecturers from the VMMU. It aims to equip participants with in-depth medical knowledge, skills for handling medical situations in a multinational environment, and procedures for coordinating with international peacekeeping forces. Additionally, the course will help trainees meet international medical standards as well as absorb medical ethics and appropriate behavior in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment.”

The training course includes: 14 general training lectures for all participants, 5 lectures in internal medicine, 7 lectures in surgery, 5 lectures in nursing, 3 lectures in pharmacy. During the training, officers and staff of the Level 1 Field Hospital will receive both theoretical and practical training, including clinical rotations at departments, faculties, and centers of Military Hospital 103 and the Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital.

Additionally, the Level 1 Field Hospital will undergo training in International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Upon completing the training program, participants will be awarded certificates that meet the United Nations’ qualification requirements for medical professionals.

To ensure the successful implementation of the training program, Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Tho, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the Ministry of Public Security for United Nations Peacekeeping, emphasized the importance of close coordination between the training board and the command of United Nations Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1. He urged them to organize the training as planned, ensuring high quality and achieving the set objectives. He also encouraged trainees to maintain a proactive attitude, discipline, and seriousness in their studies to fully absorb the necessary knowledge and skills, preparing them to perform their duties in the mission area. “With the dedication of the trainees, the commitment of the lecturers and experts, we firmly believe that this training course will be a great success, contributing to helping United Nations Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 excellently fulfill its mission,” he stated.
